This traditional style home is situated at the base of a large slope. With the addition of a South Bay Quartzite stone retaining wall, we were able to expand the usable space in the back of the house. The client wanted a large space for entertaining, and selected concrete pavers for the patio. A paver inlay detail defines various areas and breaks-up the expansive space. The main gathering area is focused around an impressive stone fireplace flanked by wood storage bins. Stone slab stairs lead up the slope to an upper sitting area and collection pool. The water feature flows down the slope through a stream and a series of waterfalls down into a lower collection pool. Plantings of Birch trees surround the lower pool and create intimacy for a waterside seating area. The combined individual landscape features create a dramatic panoramic view from the house.
To balance to scale of the home's tall front entry, we constructed a walled courtyard framed by trees and large plantings beds. The front walkway with inlay details leads you to the beautiful and inviting courtyard, which works as an extension of the home's foyer.
